Leaving the outpatient department

After the operation or examination

On leaving the recovery room, you will return to your room, where you will be served a snack.

To facilitate the rest and comfort of patients who have just undergone outpatient surgery, it is requested that the number of accompanying persons be limited to one.

After the operation or examination, it is essential :

• only leave the clinic with the authorisation of the anaesthetist or surgeon.
• to read the post-operative recommendations on the discharge form given to you by the ward nurse on your departure.
• to be accompanied by a responsible adult for a safe return home.

The medical and nursing team reserves the right, depending on your state of health or your discharge time from the operating theatre, to keep you in hospital. The time of discharge is decided by the anaesthetist and/or surgeon who treated you. The anaesthetist will give you the necessary prescriptions for your return home and will explain the post-operative follow-up procedures, in collaboration with your GP.

Precautions to take during the first 24 hours after the operation

• Do not drive.
• Eat only a light meal without alcoholic beverages.
• Do not use any potentially dangerous equipment.
• Do not make any important decisions, as you may become less alert without realising it.
• Do not take alcohol or other drugs.
• Only take the medicines prescribed on the enclosed prescription.
• Arrange for someone to accompany you.
• In the case of minors, the accompanying person must not be the same person who drives the vehicle.

Next-day call

On the following day, you will be contacted by a care professional from the outpatient department or Fast-Tracking to check your state of health and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
